Interior Design

Alex Hotel is an independent boutique hotel in Northbridge, adjacent to the Perth Cultural Centre. After its first five years of operation, Design Theory was enlisted to refresh the public-facing lobby area, with a new bar, furnishings and alfresco laneway seating.

The design responds to the hotel’s urban, street-facing location and existing architecture. A tall bar serving coffee, wine and baked goods complements the high ceilings and façade proportions, while reconfigured furniture enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. A material palette of natural stone, terrazzo and dark stained timber reflects the hotel’s European sensibility, complementing the existing interiors.

The refresh prioritised creating an inviting atmosphere for solo diners, couples and intimate meetings, activating the lobby as a space that feels generous and welcoming for both hotel guests and the neighbourhood.
