Description

Shellabears are real estate experts, selling and leasing property in Perth since 1925. Design Theory was invited to update their outdated office space, creating a functional and uplifting atmosphere for their team in preparation for their next chapter of operations.

Inspired by the language of post-war Cottesloe houses (much loved for their warmth and familiarity), the interior was reimagined as a series of passages and rooms that feel like walking through a home. Furniture and joinery were selected to reinforce this domestic quality, including pieces from local retailer Jardan. The building’s history as a boat shed was also embraced, with parts of the original structure intentionally exposed.

The interior supports a positive and productive work environment through form and flow, natural light and enhancing the comfortability of dedicated work areas, accommodating both collaborative and autonomous work. The largest meeting room opens directly onto a breakout area, which in turn connects to the carpark, allowing flexibility for both everyday use and large-scale events. Terracotta, terrazzo and timber were used to add warmth and texture, balanced with a sandy neutral colour palette to offset the building's industrial character.
