Interior Design

Light Lab is an initiative of Modular Lighting Partners (MLP), an Australian architectural lighting supplier. Design Theory was engaged to create a fit-for-purpose interior within a ground-floor heritage tenancy in South Melbourne, designed as a flexible space for workshops, design sessions, client meetings and events rather than a traditional showroom.

A central table is surrounded by textured walls and grey timber-grained joinery, which houses an array of lighting products, components and tools. Clean, open and seamless shelving allows for the impactful display of select pieces and resources, while sculptures and ceramics are displayed on plinths and photographic artworks occupy the remaining wall space. Curated by Art Theory, the art collection showcases the capabilities of MLP’s lighting products while celebrating local Victorian artists and galleries, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
