Hotel Rottnest is an iconic beachside hotel on Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) with expansive views over Thompson Bay. An easy island escape adored by West Australians for generations, Wadjemup is now a famous holiday destination attracting tourists from all over the world.

Our scope was to refresh the interiors and alfresco area of the popular pub, prioritising durability—ensuring furniture and fit-out could withstand ocean spray, heavy use and large volume patronage. Design considerations included furniture selections, accessibility and improving the venue’s operating efficiency.

The design responds to the venue’s natural setting and ocean views; a textural colour palette inspired by off-white sand, melaleuca greens and soft black shadows of the island trees. Creating a relaxing space was important, somewhere guests felt comfortable enough to come straight from the beach in their bathers and sandy feet.
