Description

Asado was an Argentinian restaurant located in Claremont. Previously an office, the building required a refurbishment to adapt the commercial space into an open-kitchen restaurant that had an authentic and lived-in feel.

Inspired by the venue’s name (an asado is a South American-style barbecue that embraces slow wood-fire cooking and communal gathering), our scope included both architecture and interiors, shaping a casual and lively indoor and alfresco dining experience.

The material palette of brickwork and blackened steel details speaks to open-fire cooking and the metalwork of fire-handling equipment. Softer elements were added for balance, such as green foliage and gentle filtered light. A street-facing takeaway coffee window was incorporated into the layout, enhancing the connection between the venue and the street. Artisanal touches, including a timber bar table by local craftsperson Andrew Christie and terracotta wine honeycomb racks further enriched the space.
