Description

Indigo Oscar is a vibrant Latin American restaurant and bar located inside the landmark Indiana Tearooms overlooking Cottesloe Beach. This pop-up venue by Fiveight involved reactivating the existing building under tight timelines, while ensuring furniture and fittings could be repurposed for future adaptability.

Taking cues from the details of the heritage building and the Latin American-inspired menu, our design approach referenced Central American architecture, including the colour, texture, rhythm and music of its vibrant streets.

The Indiana Tea Room’s original features such as jarrah floorboards, exposed timber beams, stained glass window, decorative mouldings and wall panelling were retained and celebrated, contrasted with bold colour, curtaining and greenery to define zones for formal and informal dining overlooking the Indian Ocean. Playful elements were incorporated, including a stained timber-clad bar with a striking blue-and-white striped gantry, patterned upholstery and a centred cluster of rattan pendant lighting. Special consideration was given to creating character, atmosphere and memorable impact, while maintaining flexibility through temporary and relocatable interventions suited to the venue’s short-term nature.

In addition to its restaurant trade, the venue has since become a sought-after destination for weddings and gourmet food and wine events.
